Epcot – Figment & Dreamfinder – 1988
Since the other video I posted today was so short, here’s yet another one. This time it’s with Figment & Dreamfinder, when the two used to walk around Future World and greet guests. I loved when they did this, and really wish they still did it today. Look who awesome the puppet looks and moves. Great stuff!
Epcot Future World Stunt Show – 1988!
Here’s yet another video from my 1988 vacation. This time, we journey to Epcot for an amazing stunt show, located right by Spaceship Earth.
When I first posted this, I was at a loss for what it was. But thanks to the help of EPCOT Explorer (whom I suggest you follow over on Twitter at http://twitter.com/EPCOTExplorer!), I was able to find out more about this show! It was called the Epcot Daredevil Circus Spectacular, and it ran only in 1988 (so lucky me for being there at the right time!). The show itself was performed 4 times a day by two Space cyclists, who would use their motorcycle to race toward Spaceship Earth on a high wire, and perform dazzling feats high above the heads of Epcot’s guests. The Rodriguez Family would also perform trapeze acts all around the sphere.
The show was billed as “The Greatest Show In Space,” and put guests right in the center ring of this eight ring circus high in the sky above CommuniCore.
So now, enjoy some old school Future World entertainment!
Take Your Future Home!
Since Spaceship Earth’s refurbishment last year, riders have been able to see their “futures” by answering a few simple questions at the beginning of the ride. At the end of their journey, they were able to see themselves transported into their future based on their answers, and see what life might be like soon.
Personally, I thought this was a neat little addition to the ride (though the original still blows it out of the water!), especially because you were able to send yourself an e-postcard from your future.
On my past trip, I found you can no longer email yourself a postcard…now you can send home the entire video!
So, for your viewing pleasure, enjoy what my future might look like with my fiancee…
Epcot Concept Art
As some of you may know, Walt’s original vision for Epcot was to be a living city of the future. He wanted people to be able to work and play in the same place, and have everything they ever needed in their own self contained little town.
Unfortunately, that’s not how Epcot is today.
Though Walt’s original vision does live on in some way in the form of Celebration, I’m sure we all would have loved to have seen Walt’s dream come true.
However, we can still see what Walt originally had in mind with these original concept drawings for Epcot. Click on them for full sized versions.

The shopping area. Notice the early rendition of the Monorail going through town as well:
The transportation center. Not only can we spot the Monorail as we know and love it today, but also get a view of the WED People Movers!:

Storm Struck Now Open!
Storm Struck: A Tale Of Two Homes, the latest ‘experience’ at Epcot’s Innoventions pavilion, is now open for business!
Storm Struck allows people to experience what happens to their home during a hurricane. When you first arrive, guests are given 3D glasses, and sit through a simulation of a hurricane. They observe how a house reacts to the storm, and then given a chance to improve upon it. As a group, the audience thing picks what type of doors, windows, and so on to outfit their house with, and then go through the experience again to see how well their ‘new’ house stands up to the test.
To me, this seems like an interesting experience, and I can’t wait to hear some ride reports about it. It seems to be a bit of a different take of Universal’s Twister ride.
